Note about Services

close up shot of hands

All therapy services at this center are tailored to the client, compassion-focused, and collaboratively conducted. Even though many of these therapeutic approaches have set components, this center purposely does not conduct therapy in a cookie-cutter fashion so that we can account for the human factor and empower each individual client.

This means you will be encouraged to discuss aspects of therapy you do and do not like with your therapist. Also, your therapist will likely challenge you to try several new things. However, you have full choice and agency to accept or decline these challenges as they are presented. If something feels too fast, too slow, too intense, or not quite targeting the key aspect of your issue or goal, please discuss this with your therapist.

Types of Therapy at our Center

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a specific type of therapy that believes humans suffer when the intersection of their thoughts, feelings, and actions create unworkable patterns in their lives.

With CBT, we work on identifying these unworkable patterns and creating more helpful, workable ones.

CBT is also the general foundation of most other therapy services offered at this center.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a specific branch of CBT that believes people suffer when we are

  • disconnected from our personal values,
  • focused on a feared future or a haunting past,
  • avoiding difficult or uncomfortable experiences,
  • bound to a rigid sense of self,
  • fused with unhelpful thoughts, and
  • stuck in inaction.

With ACT, we work on

  • getting more connected with personal values,
  • becoming centered in the present moment,
  • increasing willingness to experience the many facets of life,
  • creating a flexible sense of self,
  • defusing from unhelpful thoughts, and
  • taking committed action toward personal goals and values.

ACT is integrated into most therapy services provided at this center.

Exposure Therapy

Exposure therapy is a specific therapy within CBT that believes avoiding, escaping out of, numbing, or neutralizing thoughts and feelings in feared or uncomfortable situations maintains, and possibly even increases, the fear and discomfort.

In exposure therapy, we work on facing the feared object or situation in a systematic manner with new coping skills and experiences to both reduce the distress caused by the stimulus and produce a better sense of safety in its presence.

Interoceptive Exposure – facing feared or uncomfortable bodily sensations by purposely eliciting them

Exposure therapy – facing the feared situation or object, instead of avoiding it

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) – facing the feared situation or object while preventing any actions that attempt to escape out of or neutralize the situations, feelings, or thoughts

Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)

Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics, or CBIT, is a specific type of CBT that helps to better manage tics by

  • building awareness of tics, urges, and environmental variables;
  • creating competing behavioral responses during the urge; and
  • altering environments and/or routines

Intensive Therapy

Intensive therapy involves more frequent sessions and/or longer session durations. Please note that our ability to offer intensive therapy depends on our availability at the time of request.

Supportive Therapy

Supportive therapy relies on the therapeutic relationship to help examine any component of life, relationships, or self. This can be used throughout any other type of therapy, or solely on its own when someone simply wants support in exploring their own life more intentionally or to help clearly define a struggle, uncover goals, connect to personal values, or align more with an authentic identity.

Types of Sessions

Individual Sessions

Your own individual therapy sessions focused just on you and your struggles.

  • Individual therapy for adults, adolescents, or children
  • Typically, 45 minute weekly sessions

Couples / Family / Joint Sessions

We offer joint therapy sessions for units of 2 or more people who have an existing relationship that they want to repair or dissolve amicably. This can be for romantic partners, families, friends, roommates, colleagues, or other small groups of interconnected people, so long as each party is a willing participant.

  • Joint therapy for any small group constellation of people in relationship with one another
  • Sessions can range from 45 to 90 minutes

Teletherapy Sessions

We offer both in-person and teletherapy sessions. Teletherapy is conducted via HIPAA compliant video software. This can be a great option for anyone who might struggle to get to our office for any reason. Please note that not everyone is a good candidate for teletherapy, and our team will help make that determination with you. Also, we can only offer these services for folks who are within California at the time of service. If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact us.

  • Individual or joint therapy sessions conducted virtually via secure HIPAA compliant platform
  • Only for clients located in California
  • Typically, 45 minute weekly sessions

Group Sessions and Skills Workshops

We occasionally offer group sessions or skills workshops for common struggles. At this time, we have one workshop running. Check it out here.
